Welcome Letter from the Executive Director

Mark HenryThe Mississippi Department of Employment Security is committed to helping Mississippians find jobs and to improving the workforce in our state.  Everything that we do at MDES is directed toward achieving those goals because we know that every time a Mississippian gets a job or learns enhanced job skills, our state becomes a better place for all of us.

For that reason, MDES constantly strives to serve our customers as efficiently and effectively as possible. On this site we have developed a variety of online systems to empower our customers to manage their own accounts.

Mississippians seeking jobs can use this website to build and post their resumes, perform job searches, find job hunting tips, and locate their nearest WIN Job Centers.  They can also apply for unemployment benefits through this website, by phone, or by visiting a local WIN Job Center.

Employers can place job orders online, register their businesses and manage their unemployment insurance tax accounts.  They can also learn about On-the-Job Training assistance, Work Opportunity Tax Credit and other special programs that encourage employers to improve or expand their workforces.

In addition, employers can find a wealth of labor market information collected by MDES.  That information contains not only unemployment data, but also employment statistics that are invaluable to businesses seeking to move to or expand in our state, such as average salaries by industry, commute patterns, which occupations are in high demand, and where jobs are increasing in Mississippi.  In fact, the current statistics are projected to 2018 to enable businesses to better plan for the future.

If you have any questions about our services or suggestions about how we can improve our services, please email me at comments@mdes.ms.gov.  I look forward to hearing from you as we work together to connect employers with qualified employees and connect employees with jobs and training.
