Fraud Alert: Distraint Warrant

Mississippi Department of Employment Security is alerting the public of an attempted scam reported to us by employers who received fraudulent letters by mail.

These letters show a heading that reads:

Distraint Warrant
Tax Assessment Securities Public Judgement Records

This message threatens property seizure unless payment is made for non-payment of taxes to the state of Mississippi. It also provides a misleading phone number which is being used in an attempt to defraud employers.

If you have received a letter like this, DO NOT CALL or contact the sender by using the phone number or information shown on this letter.

Report this to MDES by calling 601-493-9427 and selecting number 4 to reach the fraud department, or by email to safe@mdes.ms.gov.
