Mississippi's Labor Market Continues to Reach New Highs in February

Recordsetting

As 2025 progresses, Mississippi’s labor market continues to thrive under Governor Tate Reeves’ nationally and internationally known skill in attracting and growing capital investment and jobs in Mississippi.

Seasonally adjusted data highlights this momentum: Mississippi’s estimated nonfarm employment has surpassed its previous record, rising from 1,199,300 jobs in January 2025 to a new high of 1,200,800 jobs in February 2025. Meanwhile, the Civilian Labor Force has expanded to 1,291,125 in February 2025, up from 1,287,694 in January 2025-its highest level since March 2013.

Even more impressive, the number of employed Mississippians reached its highest point in nearly two decades, climbing to 1,242,333 in February 2025, inching closer to the all-time peak of 1,242,375 set in April 2004. Mississippi’s economic momentum shows no signs of slowing, especially as the state has eliminated its income tax—removing the tax on work—and continues to strengthen its reputation as a leader in job growth.

Over the past four years, Mississippi has been successful attracting record-breaking capital investments and creating thousands of jobs. These efforts have fueled greater workforce engagement, reflected in the state’s rising labor force participation rate (LFPR), which increased to 56.0% in February 2025-the highest level since February 2020.

This upward trend is a direct result of Mississippi’s commitment to pro-family, pro-business policies and fiscal conservatism, positioning the state for sustained economic success.
