Mississippi's Employment Situation

Jackson, MS --- Number of Jobs at Historic High and Unemployment Rate Near Historic Low. This is the latest information announced today by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
In November the number of nonfarm jobs in Mississippi rose to 1,172,800, which are the most jobs ever recorded in Mississippi.
The number of jobs in Mississippi increased by 2,800 in November. Over the year since November 2017 the number of jobs in our state increased by 14,100.
Mississippi’s unemployment rate in November 2018 was 4.7%, the third lowest level of unemployment ever recorded in Mississippi.
The November rate is the same as a month earlier in October 2018 and one-tenth of a percentage point lower than a year ago in November 2017, when the rate was 4.8%.
The Labor Force, which is made up of everyone who has a job or is looking for a job, declined in November by 2,200 to 1,284,300; however, over the year since November 2017, the Labor Force rose by 6,800.
The number of unemployed Mississippians fell by 700 in November to 60,100. Over the year since November 2017, the number of unemployed Mississippians is down by 700.
The number of people working in Mississippi declined in November by 1,500 to 1,224,200, but for the year since November 2017, employment in our state increased by 7,500.
