Trade Readjustment Assistance

Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA)

Did you lose your job because your work went overseas or because of foreign competition?  If so, you may be eligible for TRA benefits.

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) is a federal program established to help workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports or shifts in production out of the United States. Certified individuals may be eligible to receive one or more program benefits and services depending on what is needed to assist them in returning to employment.  This includes Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA), which are available to continue to provide income support for individuals participating in full-time training, or who meet other criteria. The amount of each weekly TRA payment is based on the weekly unemployment insurance (UI) benefit amount received.  Individuals must have been entitled to receive UI benefits before you may receive TRA and you must have exhausted your UI entitlement.

To learn more about Trade and TRA benefits, contact your nearest WIN Job Center, or visit the USDOL website.  If a company does not file a petition for Trade benefits, a group of three or more workers may file.
